CAFAC - RUBBER PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS FOR THE RAIL INDUSTRY
Cafac studies and provides rubber products and systems for equipment used in the transportation of passengers, goods, freight and energy. Our core busines is the manufacture of fire resistant door belts and window gaskets. The railway sector is our primary market. Our products are installed in bogies, floors, interiors, seats, roofs and pantographs.
Cafac's history is built around satisfying a wide range of industrial needs. Since 1949 Cafac has introduced and extended all of its conventional rubber processes, including:

Each of our workshops manufactures rubber parts of varying sizes and densities that can be bound with steel, aluminium, or plastic. Cafac has conceived an "over-moulding system" which can wrap rubber around cable or insulate EPDM for use in medium and high voltage electrical plugs or special surge arrestors.
Cafac has a 7-strong development team, 5 of whom are engineers researching solutions tailored to customers' requirements. Our strength is both in the ability to provide all kinds of new rubber parts as well as in helping customers to reengineer existing parts - for example when metallic parts are replaced with thermo-formed or roto-molded parts to increase performance, reduce weight and operating costs. We have designed products as varied as finger protection systems, seat wedgings, roof and floor wedges and a selection of rubber carpets.
RUBBER PRODUCTS
We offer a wide range of rubber products that meet flame-retardant standards in the USA, France, UK, Germany, Poland, other European countries and Asia.
After a two-year development program, Cafac has produced the 742 T, a halogen free, non toxic, extrudable and vulcanizable rubber product using hot air. This new product is flame retardant for 20 minutes under 800°C and will keep its suppleness up to -40°C. A classical halogenated rubber is breakable -20°C
Our other rubber product, the 444 T, is also EPDM-based with silicone fire retardant qualities. These properties are particularly useful for the Trans European trains where outside temperatures fluctuate greatly.
Like its silicone rubber counterpart, Cafac's EPDM products meet all British Fire Regulatory Standards. However, whereas silicone rubber is incapable of withstanding the combined weight of passengers and luggage, our EPDM products (742 T and 444 T) offer high mechanical resistance, and are therefore a superior choice.
REFERENCES
Cafac today manufactures window gaskets and door sealings for the Virgin West Coast Main Line and cross-country trains using its 742 T and 444 T products. Alstom, Bombardier, Amtrac, Siemens, Adtranz, Fiat, Euroshuttle, Faiveley Transport, Westinghouse and SNCF also use our products. SNCF gave Cafac a number 14, AQF 2 certification, making us the first rubber manufacturer to be certified in France.
